It’s been a journey for Merrett to say the least. He’s spent time in nearly every sector of the music industry for over 20 years and in a lot of ways, he’s still finding fresh licks, new artists and chasing new entrepreneurial avenues. To compete in any area of an industry, you have to continue to learn and grow on a consistent basis, which to Merrett has always been a part of his success story and evolution of the journey.

With over 20 Canadian Music industry awards including multiple Canadian Country Music Association Awards (Producer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year 2007, Record Company of The Year 2015/2016 as well as Management Company of the Year 2021) As well as numerous British Columbia Country Music Association Awards, and SOCAN ‘Most Played’ Radio awards.

Merrett has also received three certified gold singles for Chad Brownlee’s ‘Hate You For It’, Aaron Pritchett’s ‘Hold My Beer’ and Tyler Joe Millers ‘I Would Be Over Me Too’ all songs co written by himself.

In 2016 Merrett founded the group and self-financed the band Black Mountain Whiskey Rebellion. Since the release of the album (June 2019) it has streamed over 15 million times on DSP’s and received the cover of Spotify’s Country Rocks and Live Country Playlist as well as Amazon’s Fresh Faces playlist. In July 2018 Rolling Stone online magazine named them ‘One of the Country Artists You Need to Know’

As well in 2019 BMWR was nominated for ‘Roots Artists of the Year’ by the Canadian Country Music Assoc as well as a Producer of the Year for Merrett’s Production work on the album.

In 2020, Merrett also achieved his first #1 song as a writer with Tyler Joe Miller’s “I Would Be Over Me Too” hitting the top of the charts at Canadian country radio week of October 31 2020.

2022 has seen Merrett back in the studio Producing Singles for Artists like Tommy Charles (Crank Media Record Company) Nicole Sumerlyn (Indie) and the Tanner Olson Band (Indie). Over Covid Merrett was busy writing and doing demos for El Niven and The Alibi. Their release Cigarettes charted on the Active Rock Charts across Canada and led to an opening slot on 6 Big Wreck Dates through Ontario
